The Health and Wellness industry is currently an industry, which is starting to see tremendous growth, especially within the United States. Companies such as Life Extension, Herbalife, and GNC, are just a few of the companies advocating for consumers to use their products. Consumers are responding to their advertising efforts and many more are starting to take multivitamins, cell activators, sleep aid medications and many more!

Although the increase and use of these dietary supplements are helping multiple individuals, the fact is most healthcare providers are unaware their patients are on these herbal supplements. The absence and lack of documentation in this area could lead to medication errors.

Everyone has heard stories of an individual who had high blood pressure before they started a weight loss program and after three days, their blood pressure began to lower, and their doctor had no clue why. Others have heard stories of herbal supplements, which reduce the risk of breast cancer or prostate cancer or improve eye vision.

These stories are both good and bad. The good are those individuals who are on some form of herbal supplement and receiving positive results. These positive results and stories fail to reach the ears of healthcare providers, because they are unclear which products you are taking and therefore cannot recommend any alternatives to other patients who may be in the same predicament. On the other hand, these stories are bad because patients may be on herbal supplements, which could interact adversely with other medications prescribed and could lead to deadly medication errors.

Taking herbal supplements does not have to lead to medication errors. This can be an excellent way to inform your family or healthcare provider of what products you are taking and the results you are receiving. This is the reason why people who take herbals are looking towards Ncapsul, Inc. Ncapsul, Inc believes in “…Making Medicine Simple” and provides a Capsulcard (medication record card) to document any over-the-counters (OTCs) or herbal supplements you currently are taking. This durable wallet card will allow your healthcare provider to see the supplements you are taking before prescribing anything to could have an adverse effect to you. In addition, Ncapsul understand many individuals who are taking supplements may have general questions on what they are consuming. Ncapsul understands this fact and provides access to a Pharmacist to answer general medication related questions by EMAIL, phone, or pager.

Preventing medication errors or promoting your success stories with your herbals does not have to be difficult. Visit (http://www.ncapsul.com/capsulcard) to get started on documenting your herbal supplements on your Capsulcard (medication ID card) and ‘Ask Our Pharmacists’ your general medication questions!

Stakeholder Opinions: Biomarkers in Rheumatology - Awaiting the next step towards personalized medicine

The growing recognition from companies of the applied benefits from biomarkers in rheumatology has spurred commercial interest in this field. Despite the lack of major advancements, the hope remains that soon rheumatologists will be able to predict response to expensive biologic therapies and match specific treatments to patients based upon biomarker profiles. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=130026&rt=Stakeholder-Opinions-Biomarkers-in-Rheumatology-Awaiting-the-next-step-towards-personalized-medicine.html )

Scope

* Classification and overview of biomarkers used in routine clinical practice across five rheumatology indications.
* Identification of potentially promising future biomarkers and assays with insight from key opinion leaders from the seven major markets.
* Overview of key companies actively involved in biomarker R&D, with review of latest data presented at international rheumatology conferences.
* Assessment of the market impact of biomarkers across different facets including: diagnosis, drug development and clinical trial design, and treatment.

Highlights

Future biomarkers will help stratify patient subgroups, aid treatment positioning and healthcare costs, but a personalized approach will ultimately lead to market fragmentation. As competition among marketed products increases, biomarkers and a shift towards market stratification is one way of ensuring new products get to market and find a niche.

Oncology leads the way with a personalized medicine approach, but unless there is a significant breakthrough, rheumatologists estimate this tailored treatment approach will be a minimum of 5 years away for chronic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Ensuring that biomarker assays have adequate and extensive reimbursement is vital for uptake, and will involve demonstrating cost-effectiveness through clinical trials and healthcare economics. While necessary, this will be expensive, and there is also the risk that if not cost-effective, novel biomarker assays could be excluded from clinical use.

Reasons to Purchase

* Understand the drivers and resistors behind biomarker identification and validation, and learn which biomarkers have the greatest future potential.
* Learn which companies are active in the biomarker field, what approaches they are adopting and the commercialization issues they face.
* Appreciate the potential market impact form a personalized treatment approach in rheumatology, with case studies from other fields of medicine.

WARNING Don’t Take Antioxidants

Did You Know…

…that taking high doses of antioxidant supplements — such as beta carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and selenium — does not reduce the risk of acquiring diseases, but has also been shown to be poisonous to the human body and may even increase the risk of death?

As long ago as the 1950s, antioxidants became known as miracle supplements because they “reportedly” promoted good health and prevented a host of diseases, including cancer

and age-related diseases. According to some estimates, approximately 50% of the adult population in the U.S. take antioxidants on a daily basis for this reason.

Here’s a wake-up call: Every long-term study involving antioxidant supplementation provides proof that people get sicker — not healthier — when they take antioxidants. In fact,

beta carotene, vitamin A, and vitamin E, taken individually or in combination with other antioxidant supplements, are associated with increased all-cause mortality. [Source: The

Journal of the American Medical Association - based on 68 randomized trials with 232,606 participants (385 publications).]

In case you were wondering … this information is not just another propaganda employed by the medical and pharmaceutical industries to prevent people from using natural

therapies, or to deceive people into thinking that drugs are the only solution to disease.

Over the last several decades, supplement manufacturers (and even health practitioners) have urged people to take large amounts of antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin

E because scientists had observed that people whose diets were rich in fruits and vegetables had a lower incidence of heart disease, diabetes, dementia, stroke and certain types of

cancer. They formed the hypothesis that since fruits and vegetables are a rich source of antioxidants (which neutralize free radicals in the body), then taking antioxidant

supplements would have the same effect.

That hypothesis has been proven wrong. Here’s why: http://scrnch.me/82ya4

Fruits and vegetables produce antioxidants for good reason — that is, to protect themselves from oxidative stress. Without antioxidants, oxygen destroys food by combining with

elements and burning them up — hence, vitamin destruction in food (or decay) occurs.

However, dietary antioxidants have virtually no nutritional benefit to the human body. Antioxidants such as ascorbic acid and tocopherols, for instance, are not essential nutrients

– and as such, they should not even be called vitamins at all.

While antioxidants serve their purpose WITHIN a fruit or vegetable, in the human body, they only disrupt normal oxidative reactions in the cell. This is why they are dangerous

to consume (except in the minute amounts ingested from food).

In summary, if you want to stave off disease and premature aging, there is no substitute to eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants instead of taking antioxidant

Resveratrol sources are many and diverse but most diet sources include the red wines, grape juice, Spanish red grape juice, and pinot noir and white or rose wines. The peanut too has little amount of it s well as the white hellebore and Japanese Knotweed but they are said to be toxic at times. If you are looking for natural antibiotic sources then go for the ones in foods stuffs such as the grape juice rather than the medicinal plants.

The grape juices as resveratrol sources is a sure channels of getting what you need because they contain the ‘trans-resveratrol’ concentration that passes through to the intestinal walls and enter the bloodstream where it is easily used by the body cells without any further hustle. Of the resveratrol sources tested it is true that the grape juices have high concentration of it with others having as much as 14.6mg per liter. It is also practical that not many can drink a liter of grape juice daily it I advisable that supplements be the choice to getting the resveratrol.

The resveratrol sources make sure some medical complications such as cancer, heart diseases and kidneys are prevented as well as reducing the impact of cholesterol in the blood veins and arteries. The resveratrol also ensures that the high density cholesterol (HDL) which is good to human metabolism is increased hence increasing the chances of keeping arthritis at bay.

Red grapes and peanuts are other resveratrol sources and eating about 20 cups can be really helpful in the context of nourishing and adding the resveratrol into the body now that its importunes surpasses the disadvantages. Naturopathic doctors recommend the consumption neither of grapes juice as antioxidant sources because it is not commonly found I the average diet that people eat nor from the common vitamins and minerals.

The resveratrol sources contents also vary from plant to plant just like the antioxidant levels also vary from the foods that we eat daily. Plant antioxidants are generally produced by the plant to protect the plant from diseases, UV radiations and pests as well as pathogens like fungi. So with the advancements in agricultural technologies and engineering, the plants that are produced now days are not necessarily containing the resveratrol because they are brought up well taken care of and not attacked by any of the diseases which might prompt it to produce antioxidants to protect it.

So if one is looking for resveratrol sources then the grape juices that are found naturally are the best source of it without much ado. But one can as well add supplements like the fatty fish, lots of other vegetables and fruits and lean proteins sources not forgetting eating of grapes.

You have no doubt been reading up on the benefits of krill oil and salmon oil and are maybe deciding which one to take. I would like to suggest that neither are the best option and here is why.

Let’s take salmon oil first. Now of course this is an omega 3 fish oil too but the amount of the vital fatty acids you get, especially the most important one that gives you most of the health benefits called DHA, is very lacking in most salmon oils.

Part of the reason for this is that most salmon oils come from the farmed variety which are fed on a poor diet and many times cannot even turn round as they are packed together and swim in dirty water.

Krill oil is relatively new and despite the claims made about better absorption and antioxidants, they do not stack up against a good quality fish oil.

Much of the antioxidants from krill are used to preserve the oil and do not benefit your health and they have a shockingly low level of DHA, less than one sixth of a quality fish oil. Add to this you can pay 4 or 5 times as much.

So the many benefits like prevention of heart attacks and strokes, lower cholesterol, improved brain health and mental well-being and a stronger immune system to name a few, will be significantly reduced.

So while krill oil and salmon oil sound like a good option, the truth is there are far superior oils out there when you know what to look for.

As a guide, you want a minimum of 260mg of DHA per 1000mg capsule to reap the full rewards and unless the oil is proven to be pure it should have undergone molecular distillation to remove all the toxins like mercury and arsenic.

On the issue of price, a good one should cost less than $20 a month. With fish oil, paying more doesn’t necessarily mean the quality gets better as most times it is worse!

The most effective oil at the moment comes from a combination of Pacific Tuna and New Zealand Hoki fish and provides over twice the anti-inflammatory benefits of krill oil and salmon oil, is naturally high in DHA and has zero contamination.

If you could drink some of the earth’s most nutrient rich, efficacious botanicals every single day, wouldn’t you want to? Now imagine a delicious, nutritious product that is bursting with natural superfoods, and you’ve got Seven +, a pure, 100% natural product that combines the world’s most legendary sought after botanicals!

Over recent years the health industry has skyrocketed!

With the use of one superfood like the Acai and Noni in concentrated form, these companies have launched successful network marketing business opportunities for millions of people. The newest player is a company called eXfuze!

Exfuze exhibits uniqueness by doing wht the multi-vitamin did in the vitamin industry, therefore creating a “one-size-fits-all” approach. They created the first multi-botanical nutrition supplement using seven of the best super fruits combined into one. These seven superfoods are:
Gac (Southeast Asia) Acai (South America)
Fucoidan (brown seaweed) Seabuckthorn (Asia)
Mangosteen (Thailand) Noni (Pacific Rim & South Indies)
Goji (HImalayan Mountains & Mongolia)

In addition, Seven + also combines Pomegranate, Aloe Vera, Blue Aguave nectar, Wild Blueberries, Concord Grapes, and Structured Water to create the most efficacious product on the market!

Exfuze is simply eXtracts fused together.

An extract is the result of takin the botanical and processing it in such a way as to retrieve the active constituents. THe proprietary extraction process used in Seven + seperates the botanical from its less nutritious and indigestible cellulose. Therefore, the extracts are more effective and bioavailable than concentrates. An added benefit of extracts is that they are far lower in sugars than juice concentrates.

What does this mean?
Because of the science, eXfuze has a more efficacious, 40% more dense product. We fit more in an ounce than our competitors using concentrates!

World-class endurance athletes and their trainers are constantly seeking new ways to improve performance and endurance without running afoul of the organizations that monitor their sport or sacrificing their health. At such an elite level, improvements measured by fractions of a second can be quite significant so triathletes and other types of endurance athletes examine every aspect of diet, training, sleep patterns and other factors to gain a competitive edge. Thanks to innovative research on how our bodies manufacture lactic acid and process it, endurance athletes and their trainers now have a much better understanding of how to prepare for elite competitions.

Best of all, their decisions are based on hard scientific evidence instead of anecdotal evidence and supposition. Over the last several years, several sports supplements have been developed to help prevent lactic acid buildup in muscle tissue during intense exercise by including compounds that act as lactic acid buffers. This overview of how lactic acid buffers help reduce lactic acid buildup from impairing performance and endurance during intense workouts has been demonstrated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study.

How Lactic Acid is Produced and Processed by the Human Body

When the muscle cells in an endurance athlete’s body need fuel, they convert glycogen or glucose into lactic acid. Next, each muscle cell’s mitochondria, the power plant of a cell, burns lactic acid for fuel. Specific types of proteins called “transporter proteins” expedite the delivery of lactic acid, also called lactate, to each cell’s mitochondria through a network of tiny tubes throughout the cell. Through proper training, an endurance athlete like a triathlete can gradually improve the rate at which lactic acid is burned for fuel in their body so it doesn’t accumulate in their muscle tissue and impair performance, endurance, and cause them to “hit the wall.”

How Lactic Acid Buffers Work

Buffers are substances that help prevent any solution, such as blood or the fluid in muscle tissue, from undergoing a change in pH when introducing an acid, such as lactic acid, or alkali. In order to illustrate how lactic acid buffers work and help an endurance athlete stay competitive, it is helpful to have a basic understanding of the physiology and biochemistry of the human body.

The lungs and kidneys work together to maintain a pH of 7.4 in blood by altering the components of naturally occurring buffers. If the blood’s pH becomes too acid or alkali with pH’s as low as 7.0 or as high as 7.8, the body’s buffers can no longer compensate for the extreme conditions and systems begin to fail one after the other. There are four major buffering systems in the human body:

Biocarbonate buffers found in the blood’s plasma correct the equilibrium shift that occurs when a surplus of lactic acid in muscle tissue creates an abundance of excess hydrogen ions.

Hemoglobin in red blood cells acts as a buffer to byproducts and other threats to the pH balance in blood. For instance, when glucose is broken down into fuel by muscle cells and converted to lactic acid, the byproducts created are carbon dioxide and excess hydrogen ions.

Phosphate buffers are essential for buffering the pH of fluid in cells and are especially important for buffering urine in the kidneys. Protein buffers also buffer the effects of excess hydrogen ions created when glucose converts in lactic acid. Protein buffers primarily buffer the pH of fluid inside cells.

Lactic Acid Buffers such as Magnesium and Potassium

Many sports supplements include magnesium and potassium in their formulas because these two substances, along with a lesser amount of sodium, help regulate fluids in cells, especially muscle cells, and help equalize or buffer the blood’s pH. Potassium levels maintained in a ratio of 5:1 to sodium help regulate water retention in our bodies and prevent too much potassium from voiding as waste in urine. Potassium protects against kidney damage, strokes and high blood pressure.

Only within the last two decades has magnesium’s importance in maintaining proper pH and overall health been understood. Research has found that magnesium is essential for facilitating the storage of potassium in our bodies. Without magnesium, the human body cannot store potassium. When triathletes and other endurance athletes take sports supplements that contain recommended dosages of potassium and magnesium, the amount of sodium removed from the body increases, as does the amount of excess fluids. These minerals are not only essential to proper health and balance, they also facilitate the body’s ability to buffer and quickly process the lactic acid created during strenuous exercise.

Whether you’re an elite endurance athlete or a weekend warrior, taking a sports supplement with lactic acid buffers such as potassium and magnesium is not only a good way to gain a competitive edge, it is also essential for overall health! You might also want to try some <a target=”_blank” href=”http://freakynutrition.com/”>cheap protein</a> powder!
